During the trip, the delegation also visited the traditional memorial site of Battalion 261 - Giron, in Thanh Hoa district. Battalion 261 is the main battalion of Military Region 8, established on January 2, 1961 in Tram Tre - Kien Tuong (now hamlet 4, Tan Hiep commune, Thanh Hoa district).

After the glorious victory of Battalion 261 in the Battle of Ap Bac, in 1964, Cuban President Fidel Castro awarded the Giron Victory Flag to Battalion 261. From then on, the Battalion was also known as Battalion 261 - Giron. This is considered a symbol of the special friendship between the two countries Vietnam - Cuba./.
