Long An makes strong efforts to fight African swine fever

Facing with the risk of spread of African swine fever (ASF), local authorities in Long An province, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and relevant agencies mobilize all forces to prevent and control the epidemic.

Can Duoc district actively prevents African swine fever

ASF spreads rapidly, death rate of pigs up to 100 percent. The epidemic does not infect human and other animals. However, once the pigs are infected with ASF, they must be destroyed 100 percent. At the same time, the prevention must be carried out from the beginning.

Complex weather situations, small-scale animal husbandry farrmers are causes of disease outbreaks. If the authorities do not actively prevent, the epidemic will continue to spread to uninfected areas, return after 30 days or spread to large-scale farmers. Biosecurity has been the most effective measures in preventing epidemics. At present, all large-scale farms have no epidemics due to implementing good biosecurity, said the Deputy Chief of the provincial Division of Livestock, Veterinary and Fisheries - Duong Minh Phi.

Functional forces are on duty on 24 hours per day at the animal quarantine checkpoints

Can Duoc district also focuses on disease prevention. According to the Head of Agriculture and Rural Development in Can Duoc district - Nguyen Hong Chuong, the whole district has over 12,000 pigs of 1,000 breeding households. At present, the district sets up a  temporary animal quarantine checkpoints in Viet Hoa residential area (in Hamlet 5, Phuoc Dong Commune) to control pig and pork transport vehicles from Tien Giang province.

Tan Hung and Tan Thanh districts are contiguous with Dong Thap province’s communes where epidemics occurs. Therefore, the localities in the two districts urgently prevents epidemics. Functional forces are on duty on 24 hours per day at the quarantine checkpoints on major routes as well as control the transport of animals at locations and routes without the checkpoints.

Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and leaders of Tan Hung district urgently fights African swine fever

Chairman of People's Committee of Tan Thanh commune, Tan Thanh district - Huynh Thanh Tu said: “The commune is adjacent to Dong Thap province, the local authority has actively established a control team and checkpoint to be ready for responsing the epidemic. The local leader also assigns the head of the hamlet, the veterinarians to supervise and immediately report to the authority if any case of suspected swine fever is detected.

In addition, the functional agencies also focus on propaganda to raise people's awareness. According to the head of Tan Chanh A hamlet (in Nhon Ninh commune, Tan Thanh district) - Ngo Van Lanh, the hamlet has one farm and 40 breeding households. Because most of them are small-scale animal husbandry farrmers, the propaganda is very important. At the same time, the local authorities also advises people not to hide the epidemic and to immediately report to authorities when the epidemic occurs./.
