In 2023, Long An province's PGI reaches 23.07 points, ranking 12th in the national PGI rankings (increased 16 places compared to 2022) and ranking 3rd in the Mekong Delta region.
The specific scores of the 4 component indexes of the provincial PGI all increased: Minimizing environmental pollution and negative impacts of climate change, reaching 7.15 points, ranking 22nd out of 30 provinces and cities with the highest scores; ensuring compliance with minimum environmental standards reaching 6.02 points, ranking 29th out of 30 provinces and cities with the highest scores; The leadership role of the provincial government in environmental protection reaching 4.06 points, ranking 26/30 provinces and cities with the highest score in component index and preferential policies and support services for enterprises to ensure environmental protection reaching 5.84 points, ranking 3/30 provinces and cities with the highest score.

According to the Deputy Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment - Nguyen Tan Thuan, this result reflected the attention, timely integration, inclusion in the annual task list of the industry and locality to serve as a basis for implementing and carrying out the province's plan on PGI. The units have close coordination in receiving investment, implementing and carrying out assigned tasks.
Propaganda work is carried out synchronously, deeply, widely, targeting all subjects to raise public awareness, gradually forming green consumption habits, saving energy, using resources effectively and protecting the environment, responding to climate change.
In addition, the province has received attention and support from international organizations and foreign partners in investing in developing technical infrastructure, deploying and implementing environmental protection tasks, etc.
"In particular, in the period of 2024-2025, the province prioritizes implementing specific, creative and practical groups of tasks and solutions to improve the scores and rankings of the 4 component indicators of the PGI" - Mr. Nguyen Tan Thuan emphasized.
Efforts to reach top 10 nationwide
To continue improving the investment environment, aiming towards green growth and sustainable development, moving towards upgrading the PGI rankings of the whole country and the Mekong Delta region in the coming time, the Provincial People's Committee has deployed and implemented tasks and solutions to improve and enhance PGI in the period of 2024-2025 in the locality.
The goal is to raise awareness and determination of the entire political system in improving the investment and business environment, improving the quality of environmental governance, aiming towards green growth and sustainable development; deploying and planning policies to contribute to promoting the building of an environmentally friendly business ecosystem, increasing the attraction of investors with environmental protection awareness and green, quality projects for the province.
The province prioritizes improving the scores and rankings of the four component indicators and strives to be in the top 10 on the national PGI rankings in the 2024-2025 period.
Mr. Nguyen Tan Thuan said: In order for the province's PGI to continue to improve, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment will advise on the collection and treatment of solid waste, effectively implement the work of classifying waste at source; closely monitor the discharge of wastewater from industrial parks and clusters operating in the province; strengthen the supervision of the activities of enterprises with large emissions and wastewater into the environment; enterprises in the production, business and service sectors that are at risk of causing environmental pollution must promptly detect, have solutions to prevent pollution and handle appropriately.
The Department proposes mechanisms, policies and measures to protect and improve land quality, solutions to prevent land degradation, improve, restore and exploit, use land sustainably, adapt to climate change; increase use of surface water instead of exploitation; etc.
Along with improving PGI, the Department of Agriculture focuses resources on organizing and effectively implementing the Project "Sustainable development of 1 million hectares of high-quality, low-emission rice cultivation associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta by 2030"
In addition, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment strengthens communication work, organizes seminars, training, disseminates regulations and policies in the field of Natural Resources and Environment; effectively implements joint coordination plans on environmental protection with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province and socio-political organizations; coordinate with relevant sectors, localities and organizations to investigate and determine carbon credits in the province as a basis for participating in the carbon credit market; monitor and urge sectors and localities to effectively implement the province's plan to improve and enhance PGI, synthesize reports on the implementation status and promptly propose to the Provincial People's Committee to resolve any problems and issues that arise.
Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development - Nguyen Thanh Truyen informed: To contribute to improving PGI, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development coordinates to strengthen inspection and reinforcement of dikes, prevent and combat natural disasters and landslides; carry out dredging and clearing of silted canals and ditches; strengthen afforestation and tree planting to minimize the negative impacts of climate change, promote green and sustainable growth; proactively develop a plan to respond to natural disasters and climate change to promptly deploy solutions to mitigate and overcome consequences when extreme weather events occur.
In addition, the provincial Department of Agriculture focuses resources on organizing and effectively implementing the Project "Sustainable development of 1 million hectares of high-quality, low-emission rice cultivation associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta by 2030" in the districts of Tan Hung, Vinh Hung, Moc Hoa, Tan Thanh, Thanh Hoa, Duc Hue, Thu Thua and Kien Tuong town./.
