The province maintained a good growth rate in industry –construction sector
The chairman said alongside the country’s development, the province posted a 9.53 percent GRDP growth rate in 2017, an increase of 0.33 percent over its yearly target; the average GDP per capita was VND 61million per year.
The province gained outstanding results including the agro, fishery and forestry sector: the province focused on agricultural development using high tech applications linked with agricultural restructuring; solved difficulties for key zones of production. It implemented 100 large-scale rice fields helping farmers earn high profit of 5 percent (around VND 3 to 5million per ha per season); carried out new-style rural development program and to date 59 out of 166 communes recognized as new-style rural communes, accounting for 34.9 percent.
In industry –construction sector: the province maintained a good growth rate; many major agricultural group developed well contributing in the second region growth rate of up to 15.83 percent; industrial indexes also increased compared with the same period in 2016. It implemented many domestic and international investment promotion programs besides the province also met with local enterprises to tackle difficulties for them.
Export reached US$ 4.4billion
In trading-services sector: import-export turnover maintained at a good growth rate compared to 2016. Export reached US$ 4.4billion. The provincial budget collection passed 7.7 percent over its yearly target. Long An planned to link with HCMC and neighboring provinces in socio-economic development.
In Social Culture sector, Long An concentrated also on major tasks, as a result, many criteria achieved great success, ensuring to implement social security policies.
Administrative improvement, the prevention of corruption & waste saw positive results. The province established eight public administrative centers in districts, towns and cities such as Can Duoc, Can Giuoc, Duc Hoa, Tan Tru, Thu Thua, Ben Luc, Kien Tuong, Tan An. Of these, there are three district-level admin centers including Can Duoc, Can Giuoc and Duc Hoa, which put into service and brought positive changes helping solve admin procedures for enterprises faster than normal.Security was maintained affording good political stability; the number of traffic accidents decreased.
Talking to the upcoming plan, Chairman Can affirmed the province has set a target in 2018 as it posts a 9.4 percent of GRDP growth rate; of these, agro-fishery and forestry sector will increase 1.5 percent; industry-construction sector will also be up to14.65 percent; trade & services up 7.1 percent.
The province will develop high end applied agriculture; implement the policies of encouraging production links, consumption of agricultural products, large-scale fields; adjust and add producing planning; use land to attract investment; carry out high tech agricultural application projects with high economic value focusing on clean agricultural production.
On the other hand, the province will invest and enhance its competitive capacity to lure investment development projects. Besides, Long An will popularize local images to attract tourism and human resource.
Moreover, two main routes linking HCMC to Long An –Tien Giang province and industrial parks, national roads to Long An international port will be put into operation, aiming to develop economy and open the region links between HCMC –the Mekong Delta – the East Southern- West Southern.
Administrative procedures will be minimized focusing on solving signed contracts with the country’s localities and foreign countries such as HCMC, Mekong sub-region, Japan, Korea, China.
In 2018, the province plans to protect environment, land use planning & management and technology transfers adapting to new and environmental friendly technologies./.
