Minister of Industry and Trade - Tran Tuan Anh asks Long An to be more drastic in combating smuggling

From the beginning of 2019 until now, although cross-border smuggling of Long An province has been basically controlled and curbed, it has been quite complicated. Cigarette smuggling activities is mainly in some border communes of Duc Hue district and Kien Tuong town.

According to the assessment of the Steering Committee of 389 Long An province. Long An has a lot of smuggled goods due to the distance from the Cambodian border through Long An to Ho Chi Minh City as well as neighboring provinces about only 40 kilometers. Goods transported across borders are convenient both by waterway and road; the border between Vietnam and Cambodia has many trails and pathways.

In the coming time, the province will continue to ask the provincial and local functional forces to proactively coordinate with the central forces to inspect and handle the smuggled and smugglers.

According to the Chairman of Long An People's Committee - Tran Van Can, the province continues to strengthen prevention of smuggling, trade frauds, illegal transportation of goods across borders

Long An proposed the Government to soon issue a Decree to replace Decree No.185/2013/ND-CP and Decree No.124/2015/ND-CP in accordance with the Criminal Law; guide the handling of material evidence (especially cigarettes).

On this occasion, the Department of Industry and Trade of Long An reported its activities in the first 9 months of 2019. Of which, the Department has faced difficulties in attracting investors to build rural markets due to land procedures for land bidding and auctions as well as changing from Market management board to market exploiting business.

The Department suggested the Ministry of Industry and Trade to submit to the Government for promulgation a Decree on distribution business, including a clear mechanism in market investment to encourage businesses to invest in developing markets.

Market management forces confiscate smuggled cigarettes

The Department also proposed the Ministry to review the regulations on sales promotion, mobile sales, product introduction to reduce the abuse to gambling and fraudulent activities; soon issue a National Regulation on the construction of petrol stations; negotiate with China to expand export agricultural products such as lemon, pineapple, melon, custard apple; abolish the procedure to submit to the Government for the policy of changing the purpose from rice cultivation land to industrial land, causing difficulties in receiving investors; supplement 10 solar power plant projects to the electricity development plan; adjust the national power development planning of Long An Thermal power center (from using coal to using LPG; increasing the capacity from 2,800M to 6,400MW).

Minister of Industry and Trade - Tran Tuan Anh asked Long An to be more drastic in combating smuggling, especially cigarette and sugar. The Provincial Steering Committee 389 should focus on checking transshipment points and smuggling across borders.

For the recommendations of Long An province, the Ministry of Industry and Trade noted and soon had solutions. At the same time, the delegation also discussed measures to develop trade infrastructure, especially trade in border areas and connecting border markets to partly reduce smuggling activities.

Before the meeting with Long An Provincial People's Committee, the delegation visited and surveyed the milestone No.183 in My Quy Dong commune, Duc Hue district. This is a borderline between Vietnam and Cambodia with many trails and pathways that are very convenient to cross the border./.
