Pig smuggling across the border increases

Domestic pig prices have continuously increased. Therefore, recently, functional forces have detected smuggling of pigs from the border to Long An province. This activity increases the risk of spreading the disease, while African swine fever (ASF) is still happening in the localities.

Recently, Long An Border Guard detects cases of smuggling pigs from across the border to the province

Recently, cross-border smuggling in the province has been strictly controlled. The police, border, customs and market management forces have strengthened the inspection, control, arrested and handled many cases of smuggling and transporting smuggled goods across the border.

According to the Director of the Market Management Department - Pham Duc Chinh, smuggling activities mainly focus on the border of Duc Hue, Tan Hung and Kien Tuong town. Smuggled goods are mainly cigarettes; besides, at present, the risk of smuggling pigs also increases.

According to a report of the Provincial Steering Committee 389, from the beginning of October until now, domestic pig prices have continuously increased. Therefore, recently, functional forces have detected smuggling of pigs from Cambodia to Vietnam for consumption. These pigs have not been quarantined from veterinary offices. Therefore, the risk of spreading the disease is very high while African swine fever is still happening in the localities.

Specifically, on November 12, Long Khot Border Guard Station (Vinh Hung District) detected, prevented and transferred to Cambodian Border Force a case of gathering 13 pigs (average weight of 80 kilograms per pig) that were prepared to be transported into Vietnam. Less than a week later, on November 18, Song Trang Border Guard Station (Tan Hung district) arrested an unauthorized case of transporting 95 pigs (total weight of about 7,600 kilograms) across the border. The force destroyed all the above pigs.

The smuggling is mainly carried out at night, from 21 PM to 3 AM. Smugglers always assign people to monitor or prevent anti-smuggling forces” – Mr. Pham Duc Chinh added./.
