Signing the minute of discussion
The project "Piloting the classification of household waste at source and promoting resource circulation in Long An province, Vietnam" started in Long An province in 2021 when KOICA issued Document No. KOICA-VO-21-3340 dated October 28, 2021 informing about the establishment of an expert group to conduct a feasibility study survey for the project on integrated management of resources from waste and promoting the treatment process to convert waste into energy - a solution to the problem of urban solid waste management in Long An province.
After nearly 3 years, with the enthusiastic support of KOICA delegations, Korean experts and Vietnamese experts, and the efforts of Long An provincial departments and agencies, Duc Hoa district was selected to pilot the project's activities.
The project is funded by the Korean Government with a scale of 10.83 million USD, implemented from now until the end of 2028. The project focuses on supporting policies and infrastructure to classify waste at the source, aiming at effective waste resource management and energy conversion from waste, enhancing capacity to contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and waste, towards reducing environmental pollution, improving the quality of life for people.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Nguyen Minh Lam emphasized that the minute of discussion being signed will be the basis for implementing the next steps of the project according to the progress agreed between the two side.
He believes that with nearly 30 years of experience in implementing the Waste Fee Collection System based on volume in Korea, with the support of experienced experts from Korea, the compliance with current regulations specified in the Law on Environmental Protection 2020 (Point b, Clause 1, Article 79 of the Law), the project "Piloting the classification of domestic waste at source and promoting resource circulation in Long An province, Vietnam" will be a highlight of Long An province through the organization and implementation of the classification of domestic solid waste at source, in sync with the establishment of a technical infrastructure system for solid waste management. Hopefully, the two sides will coordinate closely with each other, exchange and discuss to remove difficulties and obstacles to reach the common goal of the project's success, a bright spot marking the cooperative relationship between Long An province and KOICA./.
