Diverse OCOP products

Since 2020, the whole province has 166 products recognized as OCOP, of which, Ben Luc district has 36 products (accounting for nearly 1/4). Head of Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ben Luc district - Le Van Nam shared that people appreciate the benefits, economic and humanistic value when participating in OCOP registration.

Recently, the district has focused on supporting establishments to register ideas, develop, perfect, and enhance product value to meet product quality criteria to develop distribution channel of OCOP products, which are mostly developed from local agricultural products.

Many decades ago, Ben Luc district was famous for Go Den wine. Much later, people in the Go Den area, in pursuit of economic benefits, no longer kept the traditional taste of wine. Faced that situation, Mr. Dang Thanh Hung determined to rebuild the taste of Go Den wine and boldly established the De Go Den Production and Business Joint Stock Company in 2017 at hamlet 3B, Phuoc Loi commune, Ben Luc district.

After many years of building and producing Go Den wine, up to now, the company has 7 products with 4-star OCOP certification including: Go Den wine 31%, Sole Go wine 41%, Gold Go Den wine 41%, Green Go Den wine 31%, Harms Go Den wine 31%, OrangeVN Go Den wine 31% and Orange19 Go Den wine 19%. Among these, there is 1 typical OCOP product in the Mekong Delta region in 2023. The company also achieved HACCP certification.

According to Mr. Dang Thanh Hung, as a local business with a traditional brand, from the first days of rebuilding the brand, he focused on food safety and environmental protection. The company's development criteria are "green and clean, delicious and healthy". The raw materials for wine production are still sticky rice combined with many other herbs. All wine production processes are hand-distilled, then incubated at a stable temperature of 27-29⁰C to help "ripen the wine" and remove maximum aldehyde. Thanks to that, drinking his wine makes body feels warm but does not cause shock, cold stomach, headache, and smelly. Because of this factor, Go Den wine is popular with consumers, widely consumed in the Co.opmart system, GO supermarket, Tu Son supermarket (An Giang province) and many restaurant systems in Long An province and Ho Chi Minh City.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh (hamlet 5, My Yen commune, Ben Luc district) started selling bird's nests in 2016. After that, he developed the product into jar-shaped bird's nest. He purchased bird's nest materials from many sources in My Yen commune (Ben Luc district), Can Giuoc district (Long An province), Tien Giang province, Ho Chi Minh City. After purchasing, the bird's nest is pre-processed, processed, distilled according to food safety standards and sold to consumers. Currently, Thanh Tai bird's nest has 4 3-star OCOP products, including: baby bird's nest, diet bird's nest, rock sugar bird's nest and cordyceps bird's nest.

Mr. Thanh shared that because he focuses on wholesale, he received enthusiastic support from the People's Committee of My Yen commune in the administrative procedures to be recognized as OCOP products. This is a great motivation for him to maintain the quality of products sold to consumers. After being recognized as OCOP, the number of products sold doubled compared to before because consumers trusted the brand.

According to Mr. Thanh, in the past, bird's nest was a luxury food. Now it is raised a lot and has become a popular food. The strengths of the products he sells are controlling the source of goods, quality, meeting food safety standards, and competitive prices, so it has great potential for development. Therefore, he is cherishing the idea of ​​opening a store specializing in selling bird's nests, bird's nest porridge, and bird's nest soup. In this store, he will expand to sell OCOP products in the province to increase product interaction with customers, helping more products reach consumers.

Support establishments to develop OCOP products Over time, with the support of all levels, industries and the efforts of establishments, Long An's OCOP products have gradually improved in quality, gradually asserting their brand in the market.

Vaco Agriculture Company Limited (hamlet 5, Thanh Duc commune, Ben Luc district) specializes in producing cordyceps mushrooms and foods processed from cordyceps mushrooms. Director of Vaco Agriculture Company Limited - Le Xuan Dieu said: Recently, we have focused resources to produce safe and quality products. Therefore, the company's products are diverse such as fresh products and deeply processed products, which are widely distributed in the retail market and with businesses using them to process pharmaceuticals.

Being a small business, Vaco is guided and introduced by agencies in the district to enjoy preferential and support policies. In particular, the great luck of the business was the introduction to the project "Supporting rural industrial establishments in the Long An province to develop products from agricultural products in the period 2021-2023" from national industrial promotion funding. Accordingly, in 2022, the company was supported with 300 million VND, along with counterpart capital to invest in 2 cordyceps mushroom sublimation dryers, with capacity of 100kg/batch/30-40 hours.

In 2023, also from this project, the company received support of 291 million VND and counterpart capital to invest in 3 types of machines including: Cordyceps vacuum concentrator, PVF cordyceps extraction machine, high pressure filter. Using these 3 types of machines in the production process helps produce cordyceps extract, which has high medicinal properties, is good for users' health or can be used to process functional foods. When using new machinery and equipment, the extraction process is completely automatic, filtering impurities and products evenly after extraction. The final product obtained is cordyceps extract used for pharmaceutical preparation or nutrient-rich drinks.

According to Mr. Le Van Nam, the potential for developing OCOP products in the district today is still high, because Ben Luc district has abundant agricultural raw materials and quite diverse processing enterprises. In addition to supporting product development, the district is coordinating with the Department of Industry and Trade to focus on advertising and trade promotion activities to support market development entities and expand OCOP product distribution channels.

Recently, the Department of Industry and Trade has also created conditions for OCOP entities to participate in fairs at the provincial, regional, national and international levels. In particular, the Department of Industry and Trade supports OCOP product entities in building and forming separate OCOP product distribution chains, promoting supply and demand connection activities. Activities associated with e-commerce platforms are also enhanced to promote and introduce OCOP products to new customers./.
