According to the report of Kien Tuong People's Committee of , in 2010, the town started to implement the construction of new-style rural areas with a low starting point, when life and production conditions of rural people were still difficult. Per capita income reached 16.6 million VND/person/year, poor households in rural areas accounted for 7.17%, households using clean water only reached 5.24%. With the efforts of both the political system and the people, in 2014, Binh Hiep was the first commune in the town to reach the new-style rural goal, by 2019, Thanh Tri and Binh Tan communes, respectively, reached the finish line. Kien Tuong commune completed the goal of building new-style rural area in 5/5 communes.

After more than 10 years of implementation, Kien Tuong town has mobilized over 375 billion VND to build a new-style rural area. Of the total resources to build new new-style rural area in the whole town, people contributed 33.33%, equivalent to 125 billion VND. The rural face of Kien Tuong town has many changes. In which, the infrastructure system was focus on with 100% of commune and hamlet roads being asphalted and concreted, 100% of inner-field main axes, alleyways have been hardened, 12/14 schools at all levels have met national standards, 100% of households have permanent or semi-permanent houses, 86.5% of people participate in health insurance, 92% of households have access to clean water, etc.

In agricultural production, the locality is allocated as high-quality rice area and applied high technology to connect with businesses in product consumption, attracting 2 businesses to invest at Binh Hiep International Border Gate Economic Zone and 292 enterprises operating in the fields of textile, industrial garment, food production and processing; beverage production; wood production, processing, etc. has created jobs for thousands of local and other districts workers in Dong Thap Muoi region.

According to statistics, in 2011, the per capita income of the whole town was only 19.8 million VND, of which the rural area reached 16.62 million VND. By 2020, the income per capita in of the whole town reached 53.1 million VND, of which the rural area reached 50.9 million VND, the poverty rate decreased deeply, the material and spiritual life of the people was continuously improved.

10 years of building a new rural-style area is a long way with the focus on directing and drastic implementation of both the political system and people. With great efforts, Kien Tuong was recognized by the Prime Minister to complete the task of building a new-style rural area. This is a great encouragement for the town to continue its efforts to rise and achieve many achievements on the path of innovation. At the same time, this is also a premise to build Kien Tuong town up to grade III urban standards, worthy of being the Dong Thap Muoi Regional Center.

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development - Le Van Hoan suggested that Kien Tuong continue to focus resources on improving the quality of the criteria for building new-style rural areas, improving the value of agricultural production.

Therefore, in order to maintain the title, Kien Tuong needs to continue to well carry out the propaganda work so that the people and the whole political system can actively participate in the construction of new-style rural areas, especially propaganda so that people can clearly see the role of the subject, as well as their rights and responsibilities in the construction of new-style rural area. Communes in the town need to have plans to improve the quality of new rural-style areas, in which prioritize in improving the quality of criteria groups on production development, income and environment, etc towards building communes to advanced rural standards and model rural communes.
